Power Over Sickness and Death…

Sharing experiences about my weaknesses is not one of my innate strengths; but I will write a few lines to preface this post…

I am made of clay. My sailing vessel is leaky, and my sails are patched with wild and frantic attempts to mend the tears… I am a lot of work to keep afloat… I sometimes have trouble seeing my compass while I navigate my daily currents on this sea… If anyone is unworthy to be taken by Messiah Jesus to serve in His Kingdom, it is I…

So,  I rely heavily on the Bright and Morning Star–the Lord Jesus–to direct me safely for the purposes of His Kingdom. I keep touching the hem of His garment in my prayers throughout each day’s ventures…

Here is one of my favorite places to lower my sails and weigh my anchor into the depths of the Word of God… His power to heal is precious for one such as me… For my vessel and for my heart…

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases…”

Psalm 103.2-3

Bible Passage: Mark 5.21-43; Matthew 9.18-26

canaanite woman & jairus daughter A Jewish man named Jairus was a high official in the Jewish synagogue; he searched out Jesus and begged Him to come and heal his daughter…

On the way, there was a sick woman who was a stranger to the Jews; she lived among people who did not worship the God of Jacob. She searched for Jesus, believing He could heal her sickness; she touched Jesus’ clothing and was healed… And because she believed Jesus, He called her a daughter of the Kingdom; she was no longer a stranger to God…

When Jesus finally arrived at Jairus’ house, his family and friends were weeping and singing sad songs, because his daughter was lying in the sleep of death.  Jesus told her to rise and she rose full of life; she walked and was given a meal to eat…

In the Kingdom of God, there are only those who believe in the Lord Jesus…

The Lord Jesus is the King of LIFE; He alone can heal a heart from its SIN sickness and its “sleep of death.”

Two people needy for the healing power of Jesus… One was a stranger to the Covenant given by God to the children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob… The other was a high official, born into the service of the Covenant work given to the children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…  One was the product of a culture bent on establishing its own kingdom of idolatry; the other was an heir to God’s Kingdom promises, yet serving in an environment adversarial to the clear presence of the Kingdom in Messiah Jesus…

When He healed, Jesus showed His extraordinary power as the Messiah…

Which is easier for the Messiah to do: heal a body ravaged with illness and deformity? or to change a human heart from its deadly rebellion to a heart that chooses LIFE? He laid down His own life on the cross and took it back up again to show His power to make people WHOLE in Him–He can heal or strengthen in weakness, as well as to thoroughly overcome the power of SIN and death. When we believe that Jesus is Lord,  His thorough healing power makes us WHOLE  and ALIVE in Him…

I speak as one who knows… Biggest miracle and greatest healing of all…

Power Over Evil…

…Jesus the Healer

…A Divine Appointment in the region of Gadara (KJV; NKJV): Mark 5.1-20; Luke 8.26-38; (Genesis 49.19) –see the Bible passage links below…

Gadara-DecapolisThe people of the region of Gad had drifted backward, mingling with and preferring the practices of the religions from which God had rescued their fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Seen in this account is the clear consequence of dabbling in “familiar spirits” and “strange fire;” in so doing, those who have been rescued by the LORD of hosts open themselves to the confusion and chaos and oppression by Satan and his deceiving spirits…

The tribe of Gad was not unique in their syncretism and apostasy, but when Jacob blessed his sons centuries before, he saw that God would visit Gad’s people to declare His supreme authority and His sovereign faithfulness to His purposes…

This troubled and oppressed Gadarene soul was marked for seeing God’s triumph over  the “troop” which “tramped upon him…”

Psalm 103.2-3

Bible Passage: Mark 5.1-20; Luke 8.26-38; (Genesis 49.19)

gadarene demoniacJesus and His disciples traveled to the region of the Gadarenes (NKJV), a place which once belonged to Jacob’s sons in the tribe of Gad…

“Gad, a troop shall tramp upon him, but he shall triumph at last.” (Genesis 49.19)

Jesus was met by a man–possibly a descendant of Gad–whose soul and body were being tramped upon by a huge troop of angelic bullies–as many as 2,000 of them–known in the Bible as unclean spirits, and also Satan’s band of hateful angels…

On this day, after many hundreds of years of mixing idols with worship of God, the people of that region saw the power and authority of Jesus to declare and show the Kingdom of God by His own command…

These angelic bullies are “about Satan’s business;” they still try to attack our souls and bodies, and will try even harder before Jesus returns…

The Lord Jesus is “about His Father’s business.” He alone has the power and authority over all the angelic bullies.

If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come to you.”

–Matthew 12.28

Centuries of idolatry and syncretism and mingling of the cultures, and still God knows how to sort and target and fulfill. Yes, I said “target” because His desire is never unfulfilled…

It takes my breath away…

“Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?”…

The most paralyzing disease is our rebellion against God which cripples our hearts from knowing Him and separates us from His LIFE…

(THE GOSPEL PROJECT FOR KIDS – SUMMER 2017)

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases…”

Psalm 103.2-3

Bible Passage: Mark 2.1-12; Luke 5.17-26

Jesus was teaching in a house full of people, when suddenly the ceiling opened up and four men lowered a paralyzed man through the hole down to the place where Jesus stood…

When He saw the great trust these men had in His power, Jesus told the paralyzed man that his sins were all forgiven…

Jesus’ answer was a huge surprise to everyone, because they did not realize that He has all of the authority of God—to heal the body and to release a person from God’s punishment for sin…

In this room in Capernaum stood Jesus: Messenger of the Kingdom of God, Son of God and the Heir to the Kingdom of God…

And the Heir to the Kingdom of God, whom His own people had rejected,  knew He would take the man’s sins upon Himself on the cross–an act of love that would cost Him His life.

Bread of Heaven…

…Jesus the Miracle Worker

For such a time as this…

Many are in distress and seems like our government, in their own strength, tries to feed them in their distress with five loaves and two fish, in their own hands. I wonder how God would answer if our government and our country were ever mindful of the Kingdom of God…  with every voice as one in Messiah bringing all that we have to Him in prayer for His power to multiply it for help and provision for others in time of need…

…yearning for the Kingdom of God… for its increase in me… for its fulfillment in all the earth…

…These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

John 20.31

Bible Passage: John 6.1-15,22-35; Matthew 14.13-21

Bread from Heaven

Jesus and His disciples went away to rest, but a large crowd followed them; and Jesus taught them until it was very late, and everyone was hungry…

The disciples wanted to send the people away to get food, but Jesus insisted they feed the crowd…

The disciples gave Jesus five loaves and two fish offered by a boy among them. After Jesus blessed this food, He instructed His disciples to pass it to everyone…

…about 5,000 men besides women and children…

When they saw this miracle, they knew that Jesus is the Messiah promised by God…

Water Into Wine…

…Jesus the Miracle Worker

From my journal of summer Bible lessons in children’s Sunday school… for such a time as this…

Even reviewing these short excursions into the ministry of the Lord Jesus refreshes my heart to know that He is still about His Father’s Business… The Kingdom of God… unfolding even while we breathe this day…

…These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

John 20.31

Bible Passage: John 2.1-12

  • Jesus and His mother, Mary, and His disciples went to a wedding in Cana…

  • Jesus’ mother, Mary, told Jesus when the wedding servants discovered that there was no more wine…

  • Jesus instructed the servants to fill six very large water pots with water…

  • This miracle showed the wedding servants and Jesus’ disciples that He is the Son of God, the True Heir to the Kingdom of God…

He Opened the Scriptures…

…and Heaven, too…

Thinking on the quiet conversation between three travelers on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24.13-35…

Jesus on the Road to Emmaus2

…the discouragement, the disappointment of two of the travelers about the evaporation of all their hopes and dreams of deliverance from Roman supremacy–because the One they thought would be their Deliverer was executed on a Roman cross three days before…

…the deep grief at the disappearance of the body of their beloved Rabbi…

…the astonishment and incomprehension of the tales of visions of angels and declarations that He is alive…

…the patient listening ear of the third Traveler, hearing every sorrow and every puzzlement of the two who walked near Him…

…and then He spoke: “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” And beginning at Moses and the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. –Luke 24.25-27

…there is no room here to declare it all… Jesus is everywhere in the Scriptures…

For such a time as this, remember: every human king on this planet, in every age of history has won his crown by the shedding of other people’s blood. But this Man, the Lord Jesus Christ, whom I now adore as my King, He took His rightful place in glory as King over all creation by laying aside His rightful glory and pouring out His own blood–and thereby accomplishing the greatest victory of all, proven by His resurrection from the grave on the third day–the Day of the Firstborn/Firstfruits…
